The road through the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains is a perfect preamble to a day enjoying some of the best skiing and snowboarding conditions in the world. The Taos ski area comprises 110 trails over nearly 1,300 acres and with a 3,274-foot vertical drop. Its newly-opened Kachina Peak Lift, topping out at 12,481 feet, is one of the highest chairlifts in North America and brings skiers and riders to a range of pristine yet rugged terrain including advanced trails, tree chutes and open bowls.

The resort’s more than 80 runs trend toward intermediate skiers and riders but also offer beginner and advanced terrain including terrain parks and more than 30 acres of glade trails. Red River Ski Area, which boasts of a family feel, is a 49-minute (37-mile) drive from Taos along the Enchanted Circle. This mountain offers a balanced mix of beginner, intermediate and expert terrain across its 57 trails, along with a 1,600-foot vertical drop. Its three terrain parks are designed for beginning, intermediate and expert skills, as well, and Red River truly offers something for everyone. And, for guests who don’t ski or snowboard, tubing is available.
